I’ve mentioned previously that last month I signed up to be a foodie pen pal see my previous post or Carol Anne’s site for an explanation of what it entails. I got paired with two lovely ladies Nikki, who I received from, and Ruth who I sent my foodie pen pal parcel to. With everything being so busy and after I had posted my foodie pen pal parcel off I have to admit that I almost forgot that I was getting one which is why I was super delighted to come home to a lovely box from Nikki. Nikki is an engineer from Bristol and her box was packed full of fun things to both eat and cook with.
So, what was in my foodie pen pal box this time?
Having told her that I’m more of a savoury person than a sweet lover my foodie pen pal parcel had two lovely little packets of munchy seeds; one spicy pack and one omega pack. Now given that I love spicy munchy things the spicy pack basically got swallowed. I did however manage to restrain myself and reserve my omega sprinkles for some olive flat breads I made, which were really delicious. There was also a packet of crunchy corn kernels which were perfect writing/sitting at desk/concentrating snack food so a big big thank you Nikki!
On the cooking end of the spectrum my box contained some Bristolian pepper, smoked sea salt (which I absolutely adore) and ‘Speltotto’ which is a pearled spelt risotto. The salt and pepper have both been in heavy use, I particularly like smoked salt because of the additional layer of flavour that it adds to pretty much anything you put it in. I haven’t yet used my speltotto but will update you all when I have, I have never heard of if before so am pretty excited to try it!
So that’s it folks, second month down and looking forward to a third! If you’re interested in becoming a foodie pen pal or want to register have a look at this website for all the info that you need: http://thisisrocksalt.com/foodie-penpals/
